UNQUENCHABLE

"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

 

Years of Sunday school had given him the words, if not the dogma.

 

"Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it."

 

Sometimes he wished they could.  Anything to extinguish the inescapable, agonizing pain in his heart.

 

"I have been, and always shall be, your friend."  Words of love, however veiled – but too late.  Too late.

 

Standing on Vulcan's sands, drinking in the sight of the white-robed figure, he knew the truth:

 

"Love is strong as death."

 

Thank God for second chances.
