RETURN TO LIFE

I look around in desperation
Even as fire flares all around me
Searching for you, hoping for you.

The earth is trembling, torn apart
Then I see you.
Black-clad body,
Hair swirling in the wind
Unconscious and alone

I reach your wiry form
And you stumble to your feet
As joy permeates my chest
Fear grips at my heart.
Have I only found you
To have you die again?

I won't allow it.
Never again.
You won't leave without me.
My Vulcan friend.
I'll bring you with me
And never let you go.

I look into your eyes.
So empty and alone
Devoid of recognition
An alien on an alien world
Who lost his way.

It pains me to see you now
No sign of your brilliant mind
Which always knew what I needed
Even before I did.
What will become of us now?

My arm around your waist.
Your body, trembling
Against mine
Your arm around my neck
Alive

I'll stand by you now.
And forever if I must.
Until once more
Your eyes look straight at me
With loyalty and strength.
My Vulcan friend.

I'll tell you know
What I never did before.
I'll tell you now
Of love,
Of friendship
And of lust.
