ICE AGE

The planets stayed their courses, whole;

The heavens did not fall.

But something froze, deep in my soul,

The day you went to Gol.

Promotion seemed the only choice.

I took it, standing tall.

There was no reason to rejoice.

You'd left me, gone to Gol.

I did my job.  I did it well.

Your absence cast a pall,

My life a glaciated hell

Because you'd gone to Gol.

I hid the numbness, married soon

Though never in her thrall.

The words were right, but not the tune.

My true love was at Gol.

For three cold years we were apart

And then came Vejur's call.

Your nascent passion thawed my heart

When you returned from Gol.

And oh, your love is burning coal,

A furnace, melting all

The ice from chambers of my soul.

You've chosen me -- not Gol.
