Syrup

Jim wakes to the sounds of cooking and the smells of breakfast. The sense of Spock draws him to the kitchen.

Spock pretends not to notice him but lets him know he does. Neither is sure why they enjoy this so.

Jim tilts his head and smiles. Spock and the butter melt at the same time.

Jim hugs Spock from behind, breathing in his husband and his breakfast together. Spock leans back deeply, but continues to concentrate and cook.

"You're making pancakes?"

"Griddlecakes is technically correct."

"For me? Because of how much I love them?"

"For us. Because of how much I love you."

The hug tightens and continues. So does the moment.

"What are you thinking, t'hy'la?" Knowing perfectly well.

"I think...that you should finish the pancakes while we still want them." Smiling into a shoulder.

Spock sets the sunlit table. Jim speculates on further uses for syrup.
